Esthetician Spotlight: Meet Sarah
Meet Sarah Zamora, a Renée Rouleau esthetician who works out of our Austin headquarters. Sarah provides professional advice to customers with skin concerns on a daily basis, manages the Austin pop-ups, and is available for My Skin Prescription virtual consultations.
Name: Sarah
Hometown: Austin, TX
Renée Rouleau esthetician since: August 2017
Skin Type Number: #3 which is classified as oily, combination, sensitive, consistent breakouts. Want to know your skin type? Take the Skin Type Quiz.
What are YOUR top skin concerns? Breakouts and hyperpigmentation left over from acne.
What are your three favorite Renee Rouleau Skin Care products and why?
Triple Berry Smoothing Peel because it instantly leaves my skin feeling smoother and looking brighter!
Anti Cyst Treatment because it literally takes my cysts away in a matter of days.
Daytime Blemish Gel because it effectively treats my blemish and seals it so I can put makeup over it without making things worse!
How is Renee Rouleau different from other skin care spas and lines that you have had experience with? The whole concept of breaking down the “one size fits all” approach to skin care opens up so many questions that Renée has answers to right on the blog. You know you can trust a skincare line that puts this much dedication into educating the public before trying to sell you something.
Why did you decide to become an esthetician and what is your favorite part of the job? I always struggled with my skin growing up (dermatitis, hormonal breakouts, redness, you name it) and I didn’t have much guidance on how to treat it. My skin made me incredibly insecure for years. After a good amount of time, I eventually learned that my skin is not a “problem” and I have nothing to be ashamed of. I simply wanted to have healthy skin. With this newfound confidence, I wanted to share my crusade by becoming an esthetician and helping others that struggle with the health and wellness of their skin. Whether you share the same sentiments as I do about inner and outer beauty, at the end of the day, we all have a right to the way we look and feel about our appearance. I’m here to help.
What is a memorable success story of a time when you really made a huge difference in someone’s life as it relates to their skin? This one’s near and dear to my heart. My flawless, fearless, doer of all things mother was/is my favorite success story. She’s always had beautiful, clear, young looking skin until just a few months back when things started to change. She started noticing a brown patch on her cheek, then small clogged pores, flaky skin under her eyes, and alas, fine lines were finally gracing us with their subtle appearance (p.s. she’s going to kill me when she reads this.) Anyhow, I could see her confidence diminish right before my eyes because her seemingly perfect skin changed almost overnight. After convincing her that even “pretty skin” needs proper care, we got her on a skin care regimen (just so happened to be Renée Rouleau products) and within a week I can’t tell you how many selfies she was sending me and posting all over social media. She was glowing! To see her confident again really solidified the love I have for this industry.
Do you have any advice for aspiring estheticians? Stay educated. There’s always a new skincare trend and theory as to why the skin does x,y,z, and people want answers. Any esthetician can learn how to give a great facial, but if you want to be great, you have to be knowledgeable. There’s an endless supply of information and your clients rely on you knowing what you’re talking about.
What is your favorite blog post that you seem to share with your clients most often? “The Real Reason Why You’re Getting Monthly Hormonal Acne.” This is such a popular topic and it’s legitimately good, detailed content (as they all are). I genuinely didn’t know a lot of what’s in the post before I read it!
What’s the biggest mistake you find that people are doing to their skin that they shouldn’t be? Definitely, the most common mistake I see is people treating their entire face for acne when they only have a small breakout that should be taken care of with a spot treatment. It’s a fair mistake, it all boils down to knowledge.
Fun fact about you: I am wildly obsessed with the TV show Friends and 90’s rap music.
Favorite movie: Sister Act 2
If you could be an expert in something (other than skincare), what would it be? I’ve always wanted to be a taste tester for food. I’m not really sure what all goes into that, but sounds legit.
Best vacation: A few years ago, when a couple of my girlfriends and I all met up and road tripped to the beach together. The trio of us were best friends all throughout elementary and middle school but sadly lost contact after that. Years later life brought us back together, and we decided to take time out of our busy lives and just hang at the beach. It was as if we never lost that time apart from each other! So cool.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? “…It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward… if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you want to be because of him, or her, or anybody.” That was 100% a Rocky Balboa quote, but my dad would (and still does) send me snippets of this quote a lot, so it’s meaningful in that sense too.
If you were to create a slogan for your life what would the slogan be? A melodramatic wallflower, but a flower indeed.
